What Don’t You Want?

It’s no secret that the pandemic has led a lot of people

to re-evaluate everything from their lifestyle,

relationships, and health habits. . .

to their work lives, projects and how they want

to use their precious time and talents.

While what you do want may not yet be clear,

one incredibly effective question

I’ve asked individuals and organizations to help them

unlock their hidden genius is:

WHAT DON’T YOU WANT?

Below is an excerpt from my book about just this.

* * *

When a clear picture of where we’re heading

has not yet come into view,

we’re usually able to articulate a few elements

regarding what we DON’T want.

My grandfather used to say,

“Good judgment comes from experience

and experience comes from bad judgment.”

The clarity that ensues from prior unpleasant experiences

can propel us forward.

So . . .

  • What don’t you want?
  • What won’t you put up with?
  • What situations are no longer acceptable to you?

Sometimes risking forward requires you to say “No”—

no to what you’ve done before;

no to what is presented or offered;

no to what others think you should do;

no to something you had thought you wanted for so long but now is no longer right.

This takes courage—and often more than simply saying, “Yes.”

I hope this excerpt from Risk Forward inspires you.

It’s time to rock it the way only you can.

All my best,
