What will get in the way
of people adopting
your plan, initiative,
recommendations or key points?
Whenever you’re crafting your communications,
it’s essential to consider what
in Rock The Room® we call “O&O”
—the OBSTACLES & OBJECTIONS
which those listening might secretly have.
This last week, I met with
three different private 1:1 coaching clients,
helping them craft their messaging
for high-stakes events ahead:
- The CEO of a start up for a Series-C fundraising pitch in Silicon Valley
- The Chief Commercial Officer of a large software company for his 2026 SKO (Sales Kick Off)
- The author of a book upleveling the keynote messaging for important opps next year
With each, we dove into O&O
planning for the blocks
people may have and finding ways
to address those strategically,
overtly and as important, covertly.
If we/you don’t get ahead of this,
the outcome will be people
nodding their heads
to appear to be on board
or even telling you after they thought
your presentation was great,
but silently thinking,
“That’ll never work”
or “I’m not doing that.”
Even worse, they might be resistant
but due to forces and emotions so deep
or imperceptible that even they aren’t aware of them.
If you’re strategic, you can plan for these.
Addressing the O&O applies
to our personal lives as well.
When you make a suggestion to
a family member or friend,
it’s essential to be discerning.
Consider in advance their P.O.V.,
what they might take issue with
and then find a way to address it up front,
deftly crafting your communications
so that the concerns are addressed,
wiped free…or at least vastly reduced.
