THE IMPORTANCE OF STORIES, WRITING & LANGUAGE

This last week,

I was fortunate enough to attend

The Center For Fiction

Annual Awards Benefit in NYC.

The reason: Kate Medina,

former Executive Editorial Director at Random House,

was honored with the Medal for Editorial Excellence.

Over these last few weeks,

Kate and I have been working together

to hone her remarks

for her acceptance speech.

Throughout the evening,

as different literary luminaries spoke

—those who won awards

and those who introduced the recipients—

the focus on language, stories,

humanity and empathy

was paramount.

And as Kate said,

quoting the famous writer E.L. Doctorow,

“The historian will tell you what happened;

the novelist will tell you how it feels.”

Stories that are well told

bring us closer together.

Whether you’re a leader, speaker,

sales professional, manager,

parent or advisor, language

and the art of storytelling matter.

It’s how we connect.

It’s how we learn.

It’s how we grow.

Risk Forward & Rock On,

Victoria

P.S. Below are just a few of Kate’s books, along with a number of Pulitzer Prize winners plus works by General Eisenhower, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Tom Brokaw. An editorial force for sure…
