As we near the end of 2026
and look to 2027,
my team and I have been
streamlining the business.
Rather than exploring what we can add,
we’ve been looking at what we can remove.
As part of redesigning my website
(stay tuned for that!)
we’ve been taking a very close look
at what we no longer want or need.
What types of projects give us a headache?
What courses and offerings feel outdated?
Profitability aside, what’s no longer enjoyable or fun?
Over these many years,
I’ve been a member of various business groups
with fellow entrepreneurs.
In these, I’ve often witnessed people
getting pulled off track by others’ ambitions and goals
– aka “goal contagion.”
What’s essential to keep in mind is that
the constellation of variables
at any given period in our lives
is wholly unique:
some just starting families;
some with kids out of college;
some flush with cash;
some experiencing the benefits (and disorientation)
of having sold their business;
some pushing for a big launch or notoriety;
others scaling down.
Next week, I’m connecting with two colleagues by zoom.
We’ve never met as a trio before,
but we all respect one another
and are at similar places in our lives & work.
Here are the questions I sent my colleagues as a framework for our call:
- What is exciting/interesting to you these days (even if it’s an unanticipated/unexpected turn in your life/career)?
- What did you think you might want to do (in work or life) that now no longer holds juice?
- Why did that change? And is it worth revisiting?
- Where are you stuck–if at all?
As you near the end of 2026,
and look forward to 2027,
I hope these questions help you, too.
Risk Forward & Rock On,
